ExChristian.Net -- encouraging ex-Christians: Kansas Anti-ID Professor Beaten - ExChristian.Net - News and Opinion

I saw this article this morning. It's very disturbing.

So does anyone want to take me up on a wager that Professor Mirecki's assailants were disgruntled Christians?

A proper survey of world history, with comparative religion and philosophy would have rendered a well rounded survey that provided students with enough information to make informed decisions.

The maniacs who assaulted this professor are a threat, and need to go to jail. However, the professor stepped out of bounds, by taking a personal position in a professional environment. They may catch the culprits, and rightly punish them. However, the real damage done, is to this professors' academic integrity, whether he was joking or not. He is now open for grade challenges, and every other challenge a student can think of now that his integrity is in question.

Perhaps, the roadside incident will slow the rush of oncoming religionists to attack him in the open, i.e., on campus, and in the classroom, etc., as they would then become suspect. Seems, the incident, if it did occur, does have its silver lining.

Everyone makes mistakes, its good to see that he is taking personal responsibility... as without religion, he doesn't get the opportunity to claim, that he is just living out his sinful life and its beyond his control - and further waiting for guidance from a god to make him whole again.

These people were on a mission from God. Since God is invisible and imaginary, someone has to do God's Holy Will and step in and rough up a few Athiests'. Of
course they never had the Nads to do it in the daylight to be recognized by their Holy Invisible God, so it was all for naught....lol

Believe me there would be alot more drive by beatings and shootings if Athiests were allowed to express themselves openly in public, without ridicule or judgement from Christoids.

This plainly shows the power of a lie, a lie written on papryus and ox blood over 2000 years ago. People want to bathe and soak themselves in a lie, a lie of self-righteous filth, to be a crusader for their imaginary God and Jesus, that one day they will recieve a Heavenly reward, a Great Mansion in the Sky, as promised by the prophets, surely they would not have told a lie? Surely the Bible is the absolute pure word of God and none other. There cannot be one mistake or misspelling in the Bible since it is directly the written word of God. Since God is not the Author of Confusion, there can be no disagreements, nor any other interpretation, nor other religious sects, or demoninations, or religious faiths. The Bible is self-explanatory for all who want to believe. The Bible is a piece of trash that should have long, long ago been discarded.

I live in the Kansas City area where this story is being widely covered. There is a general feeling being conveyed that the story the professor is reporting is suspect. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he might have fabricated the story.

I read this story a few minutes ago on the worldmagblog thingie. http://www.worldmagblog.com/blog/ If you want a few laughs, go read some of the comments. They range from "no bones were broken, so he must have been faking it," to the "there were no witnesses so he must have been faking it." I mentioned that if the police used those kind of standard with battered women...

I don't doubt his story for a second. I've seen the same crap when I was younger; the "if you don't believe in my god of love and peace, I'll kick your ass" crowd.

What burns me up is that if this was a Christian, muslim or Jew being beaten for his beliefs, the assailants would be looking at hate crime charges which would concur more severe penalties.

This was blatently a hate crime yet the two yokels who beat this man will get a slap on the wrist...if that. The whole incident doesn't surprise me and one wonders if this actually happens more often than we think and the only reason we know of this one is of the professor's notoriety.

It hasn't been established that the assailants were Christian so we can only surmise. However it wouldn't surprise me if they were. Many Christians do hate to see their beloved belief system critised. They like to continue to go along and believe that a young virgin girl was violated by a ghost and subsequently gave birth to their God. Anyone who today believes this to be a reality is, in my humble opinion, stupid and in need of help

Certainly no ATHEIST would engage in violent behavior!

    Shocking.

"Certainly no ATHEIST would engage in violent behavior!"

The point of the article is that Christians claim to be peaceful people, so they should never engage in acts of violence. So, this attack was an act of hypocrisy.

This incident explains why so many nonbelievers choose to keep their views to themselves. There is a very real fear of acts of retribution and violence from Christians. Christians are using terrorist tactics to prevent critics from exposing the fraud of Christianity.

funny how selective a christians skepticism is.

Anonymous 12/07/2005 3:36 PM: "Certainly no ATHEIST would engage in violent behavior! Shocking."

Not for an invisible god... not shocking at all by definition. Cross that one off of the violence possibility list for Atheists, and, it appears to be the "biggest" instigator for violence for the past few thousand years...

Emanuel Goldstein: "Check "Thoughts from Kansas"...Mirecki has resigned as head of the department."

You forgot the link, is it that hard to just copy and paste for you, and to type your name, oh, you're typing your name now, okay, that's a beginning.

    http://www.kansan.com/stories/2005/dec/07/mirecki_turns_resignation/

Bigotry shouldn't be tolerated in any setting. Still, he took responsibility for his actions, without having to rely on a god excuse, while begging for mercy because he just couldn't help himself from his religiously indoctrinated sinful manner.

After the second post, Dave8's, stating the assailants and the professor were both at fault... I truly believed we were onto something, something wonderful: D8 made sense, almost Solomic wisdom (if he doesn't gag over that)... but sadly, it went downhill soon after: Speculation of Christians at fault, the sarcastic claim of an 'atheist' never doing such a thing. All pointless. Let's bury the hatred in the New Year. Life is challenging enough.

As for the ol' silver lining, the professor should be thankful he chose to ridicule ID instead of anything remotely associated with the true religion of peace... Islam... at least he walked away with his life, and his head.
