I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that Huckabee will in fact *not* be elected. I'm confident that the average, sane American (hi, neighbour!) simply does not trust him and will opt for a less fanatical candidate.

scaaary! Even when I was a christian I wouldn't have voted for him because even then, I understood that not everyone in this country was of the same faith as myself. Now I realize even more why someone like this has no business in office. Didn't Bush say God told him to go to war? I agree with astretja. I think the devoted ones are few and far between. I would hope... yikes.

Hickabee got this far because of the corn-fed home-schooling farmer's-wife vote in Iowa. I can't see how it can go much further - can you imagine MA, NY or CA voting him up? It's absolutely laughable. Hickabee has also isolated the half of the Republican party who are very rich, but not necessarily very religious- you may recall his railing against "Wall Street". Home schoolers may look at Hickabee and see their own reflection, but many rich Republicans look at him and see a religious fanatic who has no business experience or acumen. They would rather vote for a squillionaire Mormon who has some chance of knowing how to run a mega-trillion-dollar economy.

I don't see how anyone elected could be any worst than Bush. We can only improve. That said, Huckabee is by far the most dangerous of the repugs running. I can't see him winning enough support from moderates to be a serious contender.
I also can't see Christians electing Mitt Romney. He is well outside of the Christian mainstream. John McCain is the likely choice to lose to the democrats. Jim Earl

Huckabee is not like the rest of the crooked politicians in one important way. He actually and truly believes like a fundy. He isn't using religion to simply gain votes. He really is that religious.
Take a look at his track record as governor of Arkansas. He managed to get a constitutional amendment in the state against same-sex marriage, has made it more difficult to obtain abortions, and completely eradicated no-fault divorces in the state.
This is what scares me about him. I'd be far less scared if he were simply using religion the way other republicans have in the past.

I agree with all the above. However, there are times when I think that, perhaps, the only way forward is to let these bible-thumping morons move things to the next step.
SpaceMonk suggested that such a nut might spark a civil war--one might hope. And part of me would actually like to see that happen. I believe that most xians are on the fence; they claim christianity more out of habit and sentimentality than any real conviction. If these Americans were to be told they must attend Sunday services, must give proper tithings, must marry the opposite sex once and only once, can no longer enjoy beer or trashy television, then their devotion to xianity would fall quickly.
Furthermore, I think America is broken, and our only hope is that we may someday rise from the ashes. On the whole, we are a lazy, spoiled, illiterate nation of selfish bastards who do nothing but consume around the clock. We believe whatever appeals to our animal instincts, to any 30 second, easy to remember, slogan we hear on tv, and question nothing.

It won't happen anytime soon, however I think in time it will happen.

They think that any system that imposes their beliefs is a good one, because they are right and the rest if us are wrong. Intelligent people question themselves, thus allowing them to grow; simple-minded hicks relax, knowing they have everything right, and they never progress.
Unfortunately, most Americans are the latter, and where the hell is that iceberg anyway?

I can't stand Mike Huckabee. Every time he speaks somewhere, he cracks some stupid joke that I heard my old Baptist pastor tell every Sunday from the pulpit. I'm thinking this Obama gentleman (though not my first choice) may be our only viable chance. C'mon people, let's think it into existence!

It is really sad to see how people are ignorant of the reality we are living these days. Religious leaders are trying to convince the people in this country that what we need is a "theocracy" ...the form of government in which their "god" or deity gives or will give them the secret message or revelation to rule according to his/her/its will. What people (particularly xtians) seem to ignore is that a theocracy is a form of "dictatorship." The religious leaders think they are the only ones who should have the power to run this nation. There may be resistance to any change of any kind because they say the rules were made by their "god" and should not change for any reason... just like some countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Xtians, open your eyes! Do NOT go back to the Middle Ages!!!

I hate F*ckabee with a passion. If he's elected, hopefully some parts of the country will just refuse outright to go along with his program. That way, I'll have a place to refugee to that won't involve getting a passport.
