Your post bought back old feelings when I was a teen at Ripley Community Church and Chuck was the Asst Pastor there. I too was made to feel as if I was a bad Christian, a wild rebellious teenager, a trouble maker for speaking up. I was made to feel unworthy of God's love. When I tried to show them what Chuck was doing they thought I trying to place blame on Chuck to draw attention away from my own sins. I was strong and outspoken; not afraid to express my opinions. But He used my “strong will” to draw the attention away from himself and his behavior. He was very successful at poisoning what others thought of me; turning my best friend against me and ruining my reputation. He even convinced some of my own family members that I was a lost soul because I would disagree / debate Chuck and expressed my own thoughts and opinions. Because of how badly Chuck had influenced their opinion of me adults, leaders, family members in the church wouldn’t listen to anything I might say regarding Chuck. At 16 years old I left my family church to return only for funerals or weddings and after all these years a feeling of disgust comes over me.
I'm sorry for all of us who were made to feel Worthless by this wicked man!!

No matter who said what or who did what, Chuck Shifflett needs to be in jail. I don't understand how anyone no matter who they are, could back up Charles Shifflett. What you people at Calvary don't get is that you too, at one time or another, also stood behind Chuck Shifflett. You werent there for us when we needed you all. All of the signs were there that something was wrong and going on, but noone would believe or take notice. No wonder non of us trust any church now. By the time you all figured it all out and started believing in the teens, it was to late. So much damage has been done and you act like we are all supposed to just say okay because you believe us now. I just don't get that. How many kids had to run away from home and how many teenage girls had to get pregnant..and how many of them had to be completely miserable.
We all knew about the money, but you closed your eyes to it...we knew about the affairs, but you closed your ears to it...I have yet to hear anyone apologize to any of the teens that went to that church and school that tried to tell you what was going on and tried to show you all. I went for a graduation one time and when I left there I was so sick at the way some of the people were. Most of them had not changed. They still look at you like you are trash becuase you weren't as good as them and still stuck their noses up in the air and the ones that did talk just wanted to find some new gossip.
I just pray that the kids that are in Chucks new "playhouse" are not going through what most of us did. We might not all have been physically abused by this man, but the emotional abuse was just as bad. It is hard to let go of that and to trust anyone.
No matter whether Jack Schaap does or doesn't back Chuck Shifflett up really doesn't matter..he is in another state. He didn't victimize you. What matters is that Chuck Shifflett is found guilty and the children of Culpeper are safe.

And by the way...to the people still at Calvary...There are a few people there that I still love and talk to and a few that I still think are stuck up...in your business..busy bodies. When I come down to Va. to visit my family I have brought my own kids to the place where I SWORE I would never step foot in again. I'm glad some one finally stood up to that creep. But dont think for a minute that everyone there OR HERE is perfect. There are a few that will smile at your face and tear you down all in the same minute...just cuz they enjoy being in other people lifes..and yes, there are people like Evans and Marshall that back Shifflett. There are good people at Calvary too...just like there are good people at FBC of HAMMOND! Shifflett was the main source of our abuise but to all the adults that stuck their noses up to us and the only time they shared with us was to start trouble....they had a role in destroying teens too....and they still go to CALVARY!!!! I went to Dr. Schaap about this cuz I Hate the fact of what Shifflett did....Dr. Schapps exact words were...I am not like your old Pastor. nor will I ever be like your old Pastor, so give me a chance to be your Pastor. I told Him that I hated church and had no faith in ANY man of God......But I have respect for Schaap cuz the man is different. No one is perfect....I know first hand that Dr. Schaap, when he is wrong he will admit it to you and apologize and mean it....as he did me. I have never had any respect for Shifflett..ever. He's discusting and I hope he rots in jail. When Bob Marshall came down to Shiffletts acult...HE DID NOT ASK FOR SCHAAPS APPROVEL.....he and his wife are grown adults and have family near by and they made their own decisions. Gosh cant you see that people believe what they want to see...JUST LIKE YOU AND ALL THE OTHER ADULTS AT CALVARY didnt see what that man was doing to all of the teens and children. Shelly, don't you think that helping Shifflett form a new church where he can continue his abuse in going beyond friendship? Shifflett himself said that Dr. Schaap told him to start a new church down the street from Calvary. I saw a letter from Dr. Schaap where he was asked if he did tell Shifflett to do this. He did not deny saying it. I saw the letter myself. How do you think that makes the victims and the people who are still at Calvary feel? How can we support FBC and Hyles Anderson College anymore when the leader ship has so openly supported Shifflett who's goal it is to destroy his old church? I understand your postion, but don't try to defend something that has no defense.

So, Dr. Schaap knows what Shifflett is and still allows his people to come to Culpeper to support him. That's even worse! It's one thing to do something out of ignorance and quite another to do it on purpose. You can say that he's just being a friend to Shifflett, but what about what Shifflett did to Chad, Woody, Robert, Liz and Jason, not to mention a lot more that didn't come forward. No one in Hammond comes to preach or help Shifflett without Dr. Schaaps knowledge and approval. FBC's feelings are clear. Who's going to be a friend to the kids?

Their are a few mwmbers here that I grew up with at Calvary and they hate the scum too! I Have spoken to some "higher ups" in the church about the very case and Bro. Hyles used to preach that when you are a 'friend'...you are a friend through it all! Shifflett may very well have been the snake in the grass kissisng the a** but they were his friend. I dont like nor do I agree with it..I pray that they will find the truth out and realize that they are supporting this discusting pervert! Dr. Schaap however....HAS NEVER COME TO CULPEPER and for good reason...He sees through the joke of that creep! Shifflett used a good "OLD FASHIONED" man and used his life to act like he was a good man and in that people now hate Bro. Hyles and FBC. In Circuit Court Monday, Judge John R. Cullen separated the seven charges facing Charles Shifflett into four trials.

Shifflett, 55, is pastor of First Baptist Church of Culpeper. He pleaded not guilty last month to charges of physical and sexual abuse against children that allegedly occurred nearly 20 years ago at his former Culpeper church - Cavalry Baptist - and its adjacent K-12 private school.

The first trial is scheduled for Jan. 17. Two other trials will follow in January and the final trial is scheduled for Feb. 28. During court proceedings, the commonwealth moved to combine six of the charges into one case and try the final charge separately.

Shifflett’s defense attorneys said their client should not be subjected to a “shotgun approach” of allegations as broad as racial complaints to excessive whipping and sexual offenses that were originally brought as separate indictments. Ultimately, Cullen ruled to combine some, but not all, of the charges.

In his argument for combining the cases, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Tom Smith said in six of the instances Shifflett was acting in a leadership capacity on the school’s campus trying to control students’ behavior.

The seventh charge, Smith said, is “purely sexual in nature and not connected.”

Defense attorneys Charlie Bowman and Samuel Higginbotham II, of Orange, said the cases should not be joined and the length of time between incidents was an issue. The seven incidents are alleged to have occurred between 1988 and 1999.

“These are all very, very different charges,” Bowman said.
Smith countered saying that justice required the trials to be combined.

“He’s acting in the same capacity with students under his leadership in the same place with the same motive,” Smith said stating the motive was to use manipulative tactics to control children.

“For justice to be done the jury is entitled to determine what his motive is,” Smith said.

Cullen determined that three of the cases relating to work that was done on the school’s property were similar in nature and could be combined. These include two charges involving a “tree game,” in which Shifflett allegedly took boys out of school to split wood and told them to stand as close to the trees as possible while they were falling. Smith said Shifflett would belittle those who would run away by calling the children names.

The third charge involved Robert Hammonds, whom Smith said was also conducting outside work on the school’s property but was not walking up a hill fast enough so the defendant allegedly shot at him and called him a racial slur.

Cullen also combined two charges, which are essentially the same sexual act against alleged victim Chad Robison.

The final two charges, Cullen ruled, would be tried separately.
Originally the trials were going to begin in November. Due to the complicated nature of the case and a personal request by Higginbotham, Cullen scheduled the trials to start next year.

Breakdown of Charles Shifflett’s trials

What: Shifflett faces three charges of cruelty and injury against Chad Robison, Woody Leake and Robert Hammonds that are said to have occurred while the children were splitting wood or working on school grounds. The third charge involves Hammonds, one of the only black students at Cavalry Baptist Academy, who was allegedly shot at and called a racial slur for not walking up a hill fast enough.
Reason: Judge John Cullen combined these cases because they all involved work on the church’s school property.

Second trial: Jan. 24 at 9:30 a.m.
What: Shifflett faces a charge of indecent liberties with a child and cruelty and injury to a child. Both allegedly involved sexual acts against Robison when he was a student at the school in the early ‘90s.
Reason: Cullen combined these cases because they involved the same alleged victim at the same time and place.

Third trial: Jan. 30 at 9:30 a.m.
What: Shifflett faces one charge of cruelty and injury to Jason Rudd. The commonwealth says he was repeatedly beaten with a 2-by-4 in front of his class in 1999.
Reason: Cullen did not combine this with any other cases because seven years had passed between this and the alleged “tree game” incidents.

Fourth trial: Feb. 28 at 9:30 a.m.
What: Shifflett faces a charge of indecent liberties against Liz Bailey. She was a student at the church’s school in 1988 and says Shifflett rubbed his privates against her arm with lascivious intent.
Reason: The commonwealth did not request to combine this case with any others.

I see that the First Baptist Church of Hammond people are still coming to Culpeper to support their faithful puppet Shifflett even though he's an indicted child molester. I can't believe that I sent one child to college there and considered sending another. Not anymore! They've shown their true colors and proven again that the only thing they're concerned with is building and preserving their ministry. Shifflett, you learned well and you've been a good little boy and kissed their rear end. All that food and money you've sent to Hammond has not only bought you a Doctors degree (What a joke that is), but they keep coming down to check on their money source. Shifflett goes to court today to hopefully have a trial date set. Please keep us informed if you hear anything. I see that his tent is gone from the skating ring now. I hear that he is meeting in the Ruitan Club in Lignum. I guess that as long as you have the money, you can make the rules. Who would rent to a child abuser?

Well, Shifflett had the kids from his school out selling candy again this weekend to raise money to build him a building. He's got his school in the skating ring this year and still up to old tricks. It is so frustrating to see how the Dept. of Welfare and the courts are allowing him to do what ever he wants. When is someone in a position of authority going to do something?

Where do you think the evidence is going to be presented, on a website? The proof is in the hands of the DA and will be presented in an open court. Some of the proof was shown to the Grand Jury who indicted Shifflett on 7 felonies. Looks like they saw enough to file charges.
